    WHAT IS THE BLUE OX RUNNING “AX PACK”?

    Ax Pack is a place for more intentional "quality" workouts and training through the summer and possibly fall. It's not a "coached team" but more of a collective of runners learning and moving together as they navigate different abilities / races / goals but find common ground on the simple principles of training hard.

    • Week 1 = Sat June 15 // SUPPORTED LONG RUN (6am-8am aid station @ Blue Ox Running)

    • Week 2 = Wed June 19 // WORKOUT - TRACK @ UWEC … 100’s or stairs / hills!

    • Week 3 = Mon June 24 // 6pm Race Series 5k (UWEC: Triathlon & Nordic Club!)

    • Week 4 = Wed July 3 // WORKOUT - LOWES CREEK … 100’s or hills!

    • Week 5 = Mon July 8 // 6pm Race Series 1mi (UWEC: Triathlon & Nordic Club!)

    • Week 6 = Sat July 20 // SUPPORTED LONG RUN (6am-8am aid station @ Blue Ox Running)

    • Week 7 = Mon July 22 // 6pm Race Series 5k (UWEC: Triathlon & Nordic Club!)

    • Week 8 = Wed July 31 // WORKOUT … TRACK @ UWEC - 100’s or 400’s or stairs/hills!

    • Week 9 = Mon Aug 5 // 6pm Race Series 1mi (UWEC: Triathlon & Nordic Club!)

    • Week 10 = Sat Aug 17 // SUPPORTED LONG RUN (6am-8am aid station @ Blue Ox Running)

    • Week 11 = Wed Aug 21 // WORKOUT … CARSON - longer tempo or threshold

    • Week 12 = Wed Aug 28 // WORKOUT … CARSON - 5k time trial or threshold

    WORKOUT OVERVIEW

    SUPPORTED LONG RUN: We’ll have an aid station set up at BLUE OX RUNNING (store) from 6am to 8am on these days. Coordinate your own start / stop / route with 10 mile loop options. We’ll supply water & Tailwind and possibly another fuel source. Check blueox.run/axpack for details. Drop off your fuel the week prior (Friday?) at the store.

     

    WORKOUT: Structured workout with intentional warmup, drills, stretching beforehand. Use VDOT calculator (blueox.run/calc) to see appropriate paces. Check event info in our mobile app or website (blueox.run/axpack) beforehand or coordinate your own group to do the workout!


    Time Trials & 6pm Race Series: Use this as a fitness test! Put on by UWEC Nordic & Triathlon

    WHEN? WHERE? COST?

    FREE THIS YEAR! We're relying on some community volunteers to lead workouts

    Check the EVENTS for each workout for exact instructions and timing / location

    CAN I WORKOUT AT A DIFFERENT TIME?

    Of course! Many people will coordinate alternate times to do the workout(s) if they can't make the morning sessions. Communicate on the SLACK CHANNEL!

    DOES AX PACK REPLACE THE THURSDAY GROUP RUN?

    No! Thursdays 6pm will always be a casual free group run with the Blue Ox Herd … some call it “Run Club”! Our structured workouts meet as the “Ax Pack”!
